Brownsville Fire Department Hired New Cadets

The Brownsville Fire Department applied for and received the 2018 Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response Grant. The SAFER Grant program is designed to provide funding directly to fire departments to assist in increasing the number of firefighters to help communities meet industry minimum standards.

With the grant funds—$1.14 million distributed over three years— BFD has been able to hire 15 firefighters, supporting an already-strong department and increasing its ability to keep the community safe.

Launched BPD Mobile App and DNA Coding Initiative

The Brownsville Police Department successfully launched and has maintained our mobile application. The app has a secure internal portal, along with a community portal. Our partnership with ProtechDNA remains active.

In 2020, Brownsville Police Department Initiated Data Mining Team

Chief Felix Sauceda has transformed and empowered the department using a data-driven approach to policing. This approach is a proven law enforcement operational model used by premier law enforcement agencies. The Data Mining and Computer Analytics Teams (Intel Team) assist Chief Sauceda by providing information to run the department efficiently.

Additionally, the teams operate as a support element to the Investigative Service Command and other agencies that request assistance.
